Sepp Gilding Workshop gilding primers can be used on wood, plaster, metal and composition to hide minute surface flaws - seals to provide an excellent base for leaf adhesive:

Yellow, red or gray base colors - apply with soft natural bristle brush; clean up with mineral spirits.
