The Woodtek^® No.1 Lathe^™ is one of the strongest wood lathes on the market featuring heavy cast iron construction, high low-end torque and a flexible design system. The lathe is powered by a 3HP state-of-the-art DC drive system with three speed ranges: 0-600, 0-1200, 0-2000 RPM. It features a heavy 2-1/2" diameter spindle shaft, two sets of double-row bearings with an outboard dynamic load capacity of 14,000 pounds, a flex-free cam type outboard toolrest base locking system, surface hardened tool rests to RC60 and dynamic braking on all models:

PWM DC Drive
The drive system for the No.1 Lathe was specifically designed for the tough demands of large capacity turning. The premium Minarik pulse-width-modulated (PWM) DC drive has a very fast circuit response with a constant 1.05 form factor over the entire 100:1 speed range. This means the lathe will respond quickly to load changes providing smooth even power at all speed settings and reaching full torque at low RPMs. The drive runs at 22kHz (above audible) for whisper quiet operation and has adjustable speed pots for regulating current (torque) limits, acceleration and deceleration rates, and minimum and maximum speeds.

Meehanite^™ Cast Iron All lathe beds are made of premium Meehanite cast iron, a superior cast iron material made in a patented controlled undercooling process. This ensures a consistent grade of casting material with internal lubricating graphite agents producing a smoother, friction-free surface on all lathe beds.

Flexible Design The No.1 Lathe has a 20" swing with 38" between centers and can be converted into a two-sided "short-bed bowl lathe" by removing the 18" inboard bed extension and mounting it onto the outboard side. Several bed extensions are available to expand its capacity. Adding a 40" inboard bed brings the between-centers distance to 78". Compounding the 18" and 36" beds on the outboard side brings the between-centers distance to 42" for large diameter work. All beds can be compounded for even longer work.
