Applied by hand or with a gilding wheel and sold in rolls, imitation gold and silver leaf look like the real thing but cost much less:

  • 130-751 - Imitation Gold Leaf is an 85% copper and 15% zinc alloy that simulates 22K genuine gold leaf (due to copper, will tarnish without sealing).
  • 130-754 - Imitation Silver Leaf is actually pure aluminum that will slightly darken without sealing but will not tarnish like actual silver.
  • Wax used during manufacturing leaves a slight film on each product - sealer, if used, should be solvent-based
