The fit and finish of the castings is clean, machined surfaces are flat and even, tropical hardwood handles have a high gloss finish, and the high carbon steel iron keeps an edge very well. Cast iron bodies are ribbed to ensure strength and rigidity. Machined frog faces bed firmly onto similar machined body faces and are fastened into position with screws to help prevent chattering:

  • High carbon steel blades are hardened and tempered for accuracy and uniformity (A-78 has two blades).
  • Hardwood handles and knobs (knob only on BP-110, no hardwood on A-77).
  • Once fine tuned, these hand planes can easily exceed your expectations in almost every way.
